The Cat Clinic offers a variety of grooming options for our feline patients.  The grooming at the Cat Clinic is provided by our RVT’s (Registered Veterinary Technicians) as opposed to “groomers”.  In this way, we can offer, not only the most professional services in this area, but also the safest.

We offer the following options, usually with the use of a very safe gas anesthesia:

Bath/Comb-out M– Your cat is bathed in an appropriate shampoo (chosen for his skin type), blown dry and combed out.

Hygienic Shave – Your cat’s rear area is shaved to facilitate hygienic maintenance (esp. helpful on some long-haired kitties).  We will also shave his/her tummy at your request, as some of our heavier kitties have a particularly difficult time grooming themselves in these areas.

Lion shave – Your cat will be shaved, leaving approximately ¼ to ½ inch of hair on his/her body and half-way down the legs.  We can leave a full mane, tail and feet – or trim short if you wish.  The tail is often shaved with a “pom pom” on the end, or just a “plume” (1/2 tail shaved).

As mentioned above, the use of anesthesia (isoflurane gas, which is used in pediatrics and has no residual effects of drowsiness) is usually required to reduce your cat’s stress level.  A pre-anesthetic blood screen is included to evaluate liver/kidney function, before anesthesia is administered.  You can rest assured that your cat is being monitored constantly by our technicians throughout the grooming process.

We ask that your cat is admitted between 7:30am and 8:30am the morning of his/her scheduled groom.  They are usually ready to return home sometime after 3:00 or 4:00 that same afternoon.
