Unfortunately, our cats are subject to the same dental problems that people are. They develop tartar, gingivitis, halitosis and cavities in the enamel of their teeth just as we do. The kind of pain and discomfort they experience from dental disease is just as painful as it can be in our own mouths. There is only one difference – they can’t tell us about it except by their behavior, and most of the time, cats are very adept at hiding their discomfort.
For this reason, it is extremely important to your cat’s well being that we do a thorough examination of his or her mouth at least once a year, usually during their annual physical. Many of our clients are amazed at their cat’s positive change in behavior after a dental prophy has been performed and/or diseased teeth removed.
